Trappas Restaurant & Bar owner Caroline Tranter has completed a gruelling 14-day trek to Everest Base Camp to raise money for Friends of the Care Project in Antigua and Barbuda.

“The hardest hike of my life but I made it!” Tranter announced after reaching the base camp, which sits at an altitude of 5,364 metres, or 17,598 feet.

Tranter undertook the challenge to celebrate three major milestones — turning 50, marking 25 years since she started Trappas and celebrating 10 years on what she described as a spiritual journey of recovery.

She chose to use the occasion to raise money for Friends of the Care Project, an organisation she described as being very close to her heart.

The charity provides support to children and adults with physical and mental disabilities, autism and other mental health challenges across Antigua and Barbuda.

Tranter has pledged that 100 per cent of the money donated through the fundraiser will go directly to Friends of the Care Project.

She encouraged friends, customers and supporters who might otherwise buy her a drink, lunch, dinner, flowers or chocolates to consider donating that money instead.

Tranter also appealed to people who have visited Trappas during its 25 years in business and enjoyed being looked after by her or her team to “pay it forward.”

Every contribution is welcomed, with Tranter saying donations as small as £5 or EC$20 can make a difference. People who are unable to contribute financially are being encouraged to help by sharing the fundraising link.
