ST. JOHN’S, Antigua — Customers purchasing fuel at the Friars Hill Service Station will no longer be able to pay by credit card, the West Indies Oil Company Ltd. has announced.

The change takes effect immediately and applies specifically to credit-card payments for fuel purchases.

WIOC said the decision was prompted by the cost of processing credit-card transactions, which it said has become significant for the service station.

According to the company, the processing fees add considerably to the cost of fuel sales and reduce the station’s regulated operating margins.

The company did not indicate in its notice whether debit-card payments would be affected by the change.

Friars Hill Service Station said it remains committed to providing reliable service and high-quality petroleum products to customers.
