    PM Browne Says Criminal Migrants Will Be Deported As Police Probe Recent Violence

    Prime Minister Gaston Browne says Antigua and Barbuda will not be used as a safe haven by foreign nationals involved in serious crime.

    Speaking about recent shootings and robberies, including the killing in Swetes and the Buckleys Line service-station robbery, Mr Browne said authorities had raised concerns about criminal activity involving some Jamaican nationals.

    He stressed that the comments did not apply to Jamaicans generally, noting that the government had granted citizenship and other support to CARICOM nationals.

    Mr Browne said law-abiding Jamaican residents and citizens would continue to receive the protection of the state, while those involved in serious offences could face deportation.

    He said authorities had recently removed nationals from Trinidad and Tobago and St Vincent and the Grenadines who were suspected of criminal activity. A Jamaican national was also among those accused in the service-station robbery, he said.

    Regarding the Swetes killing, Mr Browne said preliminary information suggested it may have been drug-related, while acknowledging that he was relying on information from law enforcement.
