The Caribbean Development Bank has made EC$35 million available to finance roadworks in Barbuda, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced.

Browne said negotiations were underway with contractors ahead of the start of construction.

“In Barbuda, the CDB has made the $35 million available, so they’re now negotiating with the contractors to start the work,” he said during the Browne and Browne Show.

The prime minister made the disclosure while providing an update on road construction and rehabilitation projects across Antigua and Barbuda.

The financing is expected to support improvements to Barbuda’s road network as the island continues its wider infrastructure development.

Browne did not identify the roads to be upgraded or state how much of the island’s network would be covered by the project.

He also did not disclose when construction would begin, which contractors were under consideration or whether the EC$35 million was being provided as a loan or grant.

Further details are expected once negotiations are completed and contracts are awarded.
