A tropical wave expected to emerge off the west coast of Africa on Monday has a 50% chance of developing into a tropical depression over the next seven days, according to the National Hurricane Center.
In its 2 p.m. Tropical Weather Outlook on Sunday, the NHC said an area of low pressure could form in association with the wave early this week.
Environmental conditions are forecast to be marginally conducive for development, with a tropical depression potentially forming by the middle to latter part of the week.
The system is expected to move generally westward at 15 to 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic.
The NHC gives the system a near-zero chance of development during the next 48 hours, increasing to 50% over seven days.
Meanwhile, another area of low pressure about 400 miles southeast of Bermuda is showing signs of organization. That system has a 40% chance of becoming a tropical depression or storm during the next couple of days as it moves northward and north-northeastward, well northeast of Bermuda.
A third system, located a couple hundred miles west of Portugal, is no longer expected to acquire subtropical characteristics before moving over Portugal and Spain early Monday.
