The Antigua and Barbuda Humane Society is seeking persons willing to adopt Marley, a previously abused donkey who is now being cared for at Antigua’s Donkey Sanctuary.
Marley is one of the sanctuary’s newest residents and was brought into its care after a concerned member of the public reported that he was being ridden and abused by young boys.
Despite his experience, the Humane Society said Marley has remained remarkably friendly and enjoys interacting with people.
“He’s very friendly and loves people,” the organization said, adding that Marley will often follow visitors around the sanctuary.
The Humane Society is now hoping members of the public will step forward to adopt Marley and help provide for his long-term care.
Adoption through the sanctuary is a sponsorship arrangement and does not mean that Marley leaves the facility with his adopter. Instead, the programme allows individuals to contribute towards the expenses associated with caring for him.
“Now that doesn’t mean that you can take Marley home with you,” the Humane Society explained. “But it does mean that you get the opportunity to help the Donkey Sanctuary continue to provide food, water, medical, veterinary and farrier care to the donkeys.”
The appeal forms part of the Humane Society’s wider adoption programme, through which members of the public can support individual donkeys living at the sanctuary.
Persons interested in adopting Marley or supporting the sanctuary can contact the Antigua and Barbuda Humane Society at 268-461-4957 for further information.
