Antigua and Barbuda’s top CSEC student has not yet been named because three leading candidates are expected to challenge the Grade Twos they received.

Director of Education Clare Browne said two students sat 21 subjects each, receiving 20 Grade Ones and one Grade Two apiece.

“Two of them offered 21 subjects, and they have received 20 Grade Ones,” Browne said.

A third student sat 24 subjects and received 20 Grade Ones and four Grade Twos.

“There’s a third student who offered 24 subjects, and he too has 20,” Browne said.

Browne said the students are expected to challenge their Grade Twos, meaning the final number of Grade Ones secured by each candidate could change.

The outcome of those reviews could determine which of the three is eventually named Antigua and Barbuda’s top CSEC student. The Ministry of Education is therefore awaiting the results of the challenges before making an official announcement.

Browne also clarified that the ministry identifies its leading performers but does not rank every student who sat the examinations.

“We identified the top-performing students, but we don’t rank students from one to 10, or one to whatever number we have,” he said.

For now, the three candidates remain the country’s leading CSEC performers, with 20 Grade Ones each. The overall top student is expected to be announced after their challenged grades are reviewed and the final results confirmed.
