Pringle Says Crime Fight Must Rise Above Partisan Politics

Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle says Antigua and Barbuda’s response to crime must rise above partisan politics, offering to work with stakeholders across the country to address violence and improve national security.

Pringle said crime and economic hardship affect citizens regardless of their political affiliation and require a united national response.

“Crime does not ask how you vote before it enters your community. Economic hardship does not distinguish between political colors, and the security of our nation belongs to every one of us,” Pringle said.

The opposition leader said he is prepared to work with individuals and organizations committed to making Antigua and Barbuda safer.

“As leader of the opposition, I stand ready to work with every responsible stakeholder who genuinely wants to make Antigua and Barbuda safer, stronger, and more prosperous,” he said.

Pringle argued that addressing crime requires more than enforcement and punishment, calling for action on illegal firearms, border security and the economic pressures affecting families and young people.

He has proposed establishing a specialized firearm tracing and intelligence unit, strengthening cooperation with regional and international law enforcement agencies and improving security at the country’s ports and other points of entry.

Pringle has also called for targeted assistance for struggling families, skills development for young people, support for small businesses and policies aimed at creating sustainable employment.

“This movement must be bigger than partisan politics,” Pringle said.

He urged citizens and national stakeholders to work together rather than allow political differences to undermine efforts to address crime and other challenges facing the country.

“What Antigua and Barbuda needs now are steady hands, clear minds, strong institutions, and courageous leadership,” Pringle said.
