The Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission is seeking volunteers to serve as parade marshals for this year’s Carnival celebrations, with applications open until June 15.

The commission is encouraging community members to sign up for the role, which focuses on maintaining safety, order and the smooth flow of parade activities during Carnival events.

According to the recruitment notice, parade marshals will be responsible for crowd control, managing parade movement, assisting participants and communicating incidents to event organizers. Volunteers will also be expected to provide emergency support by reporting incidents and helping to create safe spaces for first responders when necessary.

The commission said marshals will play a key role in keeping spectators behind designated boundaries, preventing overcrowding and ensuring bands maintain proper spacing along parade routes.

Volunteers will be required to follow operational guidelines that include remaining visible and alert, communicating clearly with the public and staying within assigned zones unless directed otherwise.

The code of conduct prohibits the use of alcohol or drugs while on duty and requires marshals to treat all participants and spectators with professionalism and respect. Any security-related issues must be escalated to supervisors or law enforcement officials.

Successful applicants will receive mandatory training, official identification and apparel, meals and refreshments, and practical experience in event management and public safety.

The commission is also urging volunteers to prioritize health and safety by staying hydrated, wearing appropriate clothing and reporting any concerns immediately.

Interested individuals can submit completed application forms to the Festivals Commission before the June 15 deadline.
