An elderly couple is in serious condition following a violent home invasion in Liberta during the early hours of the morning.

Police said two masked men reportedly broke into the couple’s home while they were asleep and launched a brutal attack.

The woman sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh, while her husband suffered severe injuries to the head and body. Investigators believe some of his wounds may have been inflicted with a knife or another sharp object.

Both victims were taken to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where they remain hospitalized.

Police believe the attack may have been linked to a robbery, but it is unclear whether anything was stolen before the suspects fled.
