Four Antiguan and Barbudan cricketers have arrived in the United Kingdom as part of the seventh cohort of the Antigua Exchange programme, an initiative developed by Her Excellency Karen-Mae Hill, High Commissioner for Antigua and Barbuda to the United Kingdom; Keith and Chloe Williams of Keyworth Cricket Club in Nottingham, and the Honourable Daryll Matthew.
The players selected for the 2026 cohort are Michael Greavesand Hilroy Andrew, who will represent Grantham Cricket Club; Mekaili Tonge, who will join Harrow St Mary’s Cricket Club; and Jedidiah Martin, who will play for Belvoir Cricket Club.
The programme gives young Antiguan and Barbudan cricketers the opportunity to spend four months in the United Kingdom playing competitive club cricket, gaining international exposure, strengthening technical skills, and experiencing the professional standards and culture of the game overseas. Several former participants have subsequently secured paid contracts with UK clubs and returned in later seasons as overseas players.
This year’s cohort was selected by respected former cricketers and selectors Winston Benjamin, Hugh Smith, and Essan Warner, whose experience and guidance continue to support the identification and development of emerging cricket talent in Antigua and Barbuda.
The High Commission also acknowledges the generous support of the programme’s principal donors, Ophir and Ann Chapman-Daniel, whose contribution has helped make this opportunity possible for the four players.
Before departure, the players took part in a pre-departure orientation programme organised by Dr Colin Greene, Sports Commissioner, and Aldo McCoy, who provided guidance on living and playing in the United Kingdom. The session focused on preparation, discipline, personal conduct, cultural awareness, and the importance of representing Antigua and Barbuda with pride.
Commenting on the significance of the programme, Her Excellency Karen-Mae Hill said:
“This initiative is about more than cricket. It is about opening doors for young Antiguans and Barbudans, exposing them to international standards, and helping them understand the responsibility that comes with representing their country overseas. We are proud to support their journey and grateful to all partners who continue to invest in the development of our young people.”
The programme reflects the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ongoing commitment to strengthening people-to-people ties between Antigua and Barbuda and the United Kingdom, using sport as a platform for youth development, cultural exchange, national visibility, and international partnership.
The Antigua and Barbuda High Commission extends its best wishes to Michael Greaves, Hilroy Andrew, Mekaili Tonge, and Jedidiah Martin as they begin this important stage in their cricketing development and national representation.
