Prime Minister Gaston Browne says Antigua and Barbuda must aim to become a “lifestyle superpower,” arguing that the country’s economic gains should translate into better living standards, stronger communities and greater national confidence.

Speaking during Tuesday’s swearing-in ceremony following the April 30 general election, Browne said the government’s development strategy is centered on improving both the country’s economy and the everyday lives of its people.

“We have to continue the transformational build of this country,” Browne said.

He told attendees that the administration’s vision goes beyond economic growth alone and includes “infrastructure, people, competitiveness, pride, environment, safety and security.”

Browne said Antigua and Barbuda must leverage its progress and stability to create a country that is attractive not only to visitors, but also to its own citizens.

“We have to position Antigua and Barbuda as a lifestyle superpower,” he declared.

The Prime Minister linked that ambition to ongoing investments in infrastructure, housing, education and public services, while also stressing the importance of national pride and social development.

He said the country must continue building a society that offers opportunity, security and an improved quality of life.

“We must work boldly,” Browne said, as he urged continued efforts to strengthen the nation’s competitiveness and resilience.

Browne also emphasized the need to invest in people, particularly young people, while creating conditions that encourage long-term economic and social advancement.

According to the Prime Minister, the government’s objective is not only to expand the economy, but to ensure that development produces tangible benefits across the country.

The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party secured 15 of the 17 parliamentary seats in last week’s election.
