A High Court has ordered a former store clerk to repay $6,000 after she admitted using her employer’s debit card to fund a string of unauthorised online purchases.

Jamila Edwards pleaded guilty to fraud and must pay $3,000 immediately, with the remaining balance to be settled in $500 monthly instalments.

The court heard that in 2023, while employed at Super Power, Edwards was asked to assist her employer in obtaining and setting up an ECAB debit card. She instead used the card details to make purchases on Shein without permission.

The scheme came to light when the employer, travelling in Miami, was unable to use the card. A review of the account revealed unauthorised transactions between September 12 and October 20 totalling $5,797.53.

The matter was reported to police, resulting in Edwards’ arrest and conviction.
