Michael Joseph says he is confident of winning St John’s Rural West, as he prepares to launch a campaign centred on youth development, education and economic opportunity.

The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) candidate said he is looking forward to engaging constituents, listening to their concerns and outlining his plans for the area as part of what he described as a “new era” for Antigua and Barbuda.

He said his manifesto, due to be unveiled on Friday, will focus heavily on investment in young people, particularly in improving performance in core subjects such as mathematics and English.

Mr Joseph noted that underperformance in these areas is a national issue but said it is “more pronounced” in St John’s Rural West. He plans to work with schools and provide additional support for students, including extra classes at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) level to improve outcomes and job prospects.

His proposals also include housing, infrastructure and entrepreneurship initiatives, aimed at helping young people access funding and build sustainable businesses.

Mr Joseph said he has already seen growing support within the constituency, including from some voters who previously backed the opposition.

He argued that, unlike the incumbent, he is not burdened by a long track record, but has instead demonstrated his capabilities over the past two years.

“I’m very confident,” he said, adding that he believes voters are ready to give him a chance at the upcoming election.
