A magnitude 3.9 earthquake was recorded early Saturday morning in the northeastern Caribbean, according to the UWI Seismic Research Centre.

The quake occurred at 3:13 a.m. local time at a depth of 10 kilometres.

Preliminary data from the monitoring agency placed the epicentre at latitude 16.86 north and longitude 60.87 west, about 100 kilometres northeast of Point-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe and approximately 112 kilometres east-southeast of St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda. It was also located about 149 kilometres east of Brades, Montserrat.

The centre said the location was automatically calculated by computer algorithms and could be revised following further analysis by its scientists.

No reports of damage or injuries had been received up to Saturday morning.
