Musician Dwight Laviscount was named Instrumentalist of the Year at the National Music Awards, with organizers recognizing his contributions to the development of instrumental music in Antigua and Barbuda.

Laviscount was selected ahead of fellow finalists Dalma “Boogie” George and Javonte Chattel in the category honoring outstanding instrumental performers.

During the presentation, the ceremony highlighted Laviscount’s work in advancing music education and performance across the country. The citation noted his efforts to host clinics for young musicians in several schools and his role in launching Integral Music , an initiative focused on nurturing musical talent and collaboration.

Organizers also pointed to his contributions to the local music scene through live performances, collaborations across musical genres and continued professional development with the Berklee College of Music.

Accepting the award, Laviscount spoke about the importance of using music to inspire and train the next generation.

“Just like to thank God for the gift and the talent to really present myself to Antigua and Barbuda, and not only that, to help train the next generation of musicians as well,” he said.

“You know, it’s never about just me as an individual, but we always have to remember that we have younger persons coming behind us, and we have to make sure we leave a legacy,” Laviscount added.

He also thanked his wife during the brief remarks.

“I always want to thank my wife as well. She’s right there sitting,” he said.

The Instrumentalist of the Year award formed part of the National Music Awards ceremony recognizing performers, producers and other contributors to Antigua and Barbuda’s music industry.
