Prime Minister Gaston Browne said residents in parts of St. Philip’s North are now receiving improved water supply after concerns were raised during a recent town hall meeting in the constituency.

Speaking on the Browne and Browne show on Pointe FM, Browne said the issue of inconsistent water pressure was brought directly to government officials during the public forum and was addressed within days.

At the meeting, which he described as well attended, Browne said constituents were invited to openly raise concerns.

“One lady in particular… wanted to raise the issue about water,” he said, noting that she spoke candidly about the challenges residents were facing .

Browne said he later received a call from a resident who had previously complained about low pressure.

“I had a call this morning from one of them who was actually complaining a few days ago,” Browne said. “And said, ‘Look, the water pressure… I’m up here so I’m powerful now.’”

He said residents are now “happy” and confirmed that water is flowing in the area.

According to Browne, the responsible minister had committed to ensuring water was restored by Saturday and to provide a more consistent supply. He said the quick response underscores the importance of direct community engagement.

“And this is why these engagements are very important — for us to reach the people, to go to them,” Browne said, adding that such forums form part of the government’s accountability efforts.

The improvements come amid campaigning in St. Philip’s North ahead of the March 16 by-election, triggered by the retirement of longtime MP Sir Robin Yearwood.

Browne said the town hall allowed residents not only to show support for the governing Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party but also to press ministers on service delivery issues affecting their communities.
