The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) has been praised for its swift response in treating 37-year-old diver Akeam Bretney, who suffered from decompression sickness, or “the bends.”

Thanks to the hospital’s hyperbaric chamber—donated by the Calvin Ayre Foundation—Bretney received immediate Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), avoiding the need for overseas treatment. He has since made a full recovery.

SLBMC thanked the Foundation for its support, noting that the equipment has strengthened their life-saving capabilities. Special recognition was given to Dr. Bienvenido Bridge, who led the medical team during the emergency.
