Prime Minister Gaston Browne has confirmed that home security cameras qualify for duty-free concessions, assuring citizens that there should be no obstacles at customs when importing surveillance equipment for personal use.

The clarification came in response to public concerns about the process of bringing in security cameras, with some residents questioning whether customs duties or bureaucratic delays were creating barriers.

Gaston Browne reaffirmed that duty-free concessions for security cameras have been in place for years, allowing homeowners to enhance their surveillance systems without additional financial burden.

“We do have duty-free concessions on cameras, and that shouldn’t be a problem,” Browne stated.

The Prime Minister encouraged residents to take advantage of the policy and noted that modern surveillance systems, including plug-and-play Wi-Fi cameras, are readily accessible and easy to install.

The confirmation comes as the government expands its nationwide CCTV network, placing additional cameras on main roads and high-crime areas to strengthen law enforcement efforts.

Browne also acknowledged calls for greater government-led security initiatives, including installing surveillance cameras at key locations across the country.

With rising concerns about crime, the combination of public and private surveillance efforts is expected to play a significant role in deterring criminal activity and assisting law enforcement investigations.

Residents seeking further details on duty-free importation of security equipment can contact customs authorities for verification, ensuring that they maximize the benefits of the concession while contributing to overall public safety efforts.
