Rawdon Turner officially entered Parliament as the newly elected representative for St. Peter, delivering an emotional speech in which he thanked his supporters and reflected on his journey into politics.

Expressing gratitude to God, his family, and his campaign team, Turner acknowledged the overwhelming support from his constituents that secured his place in the House of Representatives. “I’m a product of the village,” he said, highlighting his deep connection to the people of St. Peter and his commitment to representing those who shaped his upbringing.

Turner shared a personal reflection on his long-standing aspiration to serve in Parliament, recalling childhood memories of watching ministers pose for the official photo after the Throne Speech. “I used to tell myself, one day I’m going to be in that photo,” he remarked, adding that his appointment to the Senate in 2023 and now his election as MP have made that dream a reality.

He expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Gaston Browne for entrusting him with the role of Minister of Social and Urban Transformation, vowing to work tirelessly for his constituents and the nation. “I will work hard and do my best to serve them to the best of my ability,” Turner assured.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne welcomed Turner to the House of Representatives, commending his resounding electoral victory in the January 14 by-election, where he secured 75.1% of the vote—the largest margin of support among sitting MPs. Browne emphasized that this overwhelming confidence from the people of St. Peter reflects their trust in Turner’s ability to lead.

“The people of St. Peter would have demonstrated significant confidence in you,” Browne stated. “I want to appeal to you to continue to represent the people of St. Peter to the best of your ability.”

The Prime Minister endorsed the Speaker’s call for Turner to prioritize his constituents, reminding him of the importance of serving those who entrusted him with their vote. He also urged Turner to assist vulnerable constituents and avoid public criticisms of those in need, emphasizing the role of an MP in uplifting the community.

Browne further expressed confidence in Turner’s political future, suggesting that his youth and capabilities could one day position him as a contender for the nation’s highest office. “You’re young enough and capable enough to become Prime Minister of this country,” he remarked, wishing Turner a long and successful political career.

With strong support from both his constituents and the Prime Minister, Turner embarks on his parliamentary tenure, committed to fulfilling his role with diligence and service.
