Dear Editor,

I have been a Labour Party supporter my whole life. My family is Labour. But I am also a staunch environmentalist. I want Antigua and Barbuda to be somewhere worth living when my grandkids come around hopefully. And I say the same for the world.

The way the world is going is not good. Climate change causing heatwaves, droughts, rivers disappearing, farmland turning to deserts. And if that isn’t bad enough on the ecosystems on land and sea, human pollution and consumption is killing everything else in sight.

I cannot see how in this day and age, Antigua and Barbuda can be on the world stage supporting whaling. What does that have to do with us? The majority of countries are in agreement that whaling is a harmful practice that reduces the populations of these marine mammals and adds extra pressure on them in addition to all the other things we’re doing wrong in the ocean.

We have no whaling industry here. Why are we running around internationally supporting whaling? And why is Daven Joseph always the standard bearer? It’s an embarrassment to our country and our party, the fact that we look like our support was simply bought. I hope the Prime Minister will get up and do something about this embarrassing situation.

How does Gaston Browne go around preaching about climate change, ecological breakdown and the woes of small islands, and then have his party man Daven preaching the gospel of killing more whales? For whose benefit? Antigua? We eat whales here? Mr. Prime Minister. Stop the pappyshow.
