India has launched a major humanitarian mission to assist earthquake-ravaged Venezuela, dispatching military aircraft carrying emergency relief supplies, medical equipment and specialised rescue personnel as the South American nation continues to recover from one of its deadliest natural disasters in recent history.

Indian Honorary Consul to Antigua and Barbuda Vijay Tewani said the Government of India activated “Operation Amistad” in response to the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela last Wednesday, triggering widespread devastation and a growing humanitarian crisis.

According to Tewani, two Indian Air Force military transport aircraft have been deployed with tonnes of emergency relief supplies, including food, medicines and essential equipment, along with a fully equipped field hospital and specialised search-and-rescue teams.

“The Government of India acted swiftly to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Venezuela during this difficult time,” Tewani said. “Operation Amistad reflects India’s longstanding commitment to supporting nations affected by natural disasters.”

The field hospital is expected to provide emergency medical treatment to survivors while Indian rescue personnel assist Venezuelan authorities in search, rescue and recovery efforts.

India joins a growing list of countries that have mobilised aid for Venezuela following the powerful earthquakes, which have claimed hundreds of lives, injured thousands and left many more displaced.

International relief efforts have intensified as rescue crews continue searching for survivors trapped beneath collapsed buildings while humanitarian organisations work to provide shelter, food, clean water and medical care to affected communities.

Officials say the Indian mission underscores the importance of international cooperation in responding to large-scale humanitarian emergencies as Venezuela begins the long process of recovery and rebuilding.
