ABLP triggered by UPP Manifesto format, but avoids engagement on content

The Antigua Labour Party’s s statement is not a serious critique of the United Progressive Party’s Manifesto. It is a political distraction – a frightened whistle in the dark – that carefully avoids the real issues facing the People of this country.

The UPP has published a clear, structured, accessible and modern Manifesto that addresses core national priorities – water, roads, crime, healthcare, cost of living, governance reform, and economic opportunity – enumerated by the voters, themselves.

However, the ABLP is preoccupied with format instead of content.

That it is available online does not diminish the Manifesto’s legitimacy; rather, it confirms that the Party is ready to embrace a 21st-century approach to communication with the public.

In the face of the People’s hardships – and their fears brought on by US visa restrictions – the Labour Party has poured millions of dollars into its election campaign.

But heavy advertising, political messaging, and costly concerts raise a fundamental question: If such significant financial resources are available for campaigning, why are those resources not translating into improvement in the lives of citizens?

Because the ABLP is more focused on maintaining power than on delivering services to the People.

The ABLP claims the UPP has “no plan.” Yet, it offers no substantive engagement with the actual policies presented. Instead, it leans on outdated narratives about 2004–2014, avoiding any meaningful defense of its 12-year record of underperformance.

Where the ABLP has presented criticism, distraction, and excess, the United Progressive Party has presented a vision for change, crafted from the People’s needs. At their current low point, voters are asking for results, accountability, and a credible path forward. They are not interested in political theatrics.
