The government will begin urgent rehabilitation work on All Saints Road next week, moving ahead with local resources as delays continue in negotiations with a Canadian firm, officials said during Wednesday’s post-Cabinet briefing.

Director General of Communications in the Prime Minister’s Office Maurice Merchant said Cabinet agreed to proceed with the long-anticipated repairs amid mounting public complaints and ongoing bureaucratic holdups affecting a wider road programme.

“Because of the urgency of All Saints Road … Cabinet says, ‘enough is enough.’ Let us get going on the Old Parham Road,” Merchant said.

He said the Ministry of Works has already begun mobilising equipment, materials and personnel, with the project expected to improve road quality, safety and ease of travel for motorists and pedestrians.

The decision comes as discussions continue with Canadian firm Amdex, which had been expected to carry out a broader road rehabilitation programme. Merchant said those negotiations have proven slower than anticipated due to administrative processes.

“The bureaucracy involved has proven to be very tedious,” he said, noting that while talks continue, the government has opted to prioritise immediate repairs using in-house capacity.

Originally, Amdex was expected to undertake approximately 11 miles of roadworks, including major corridors such as the Sir George Walter Highway and Jonas Road. Merchant said those projects remain under consideration, but the government has shifted its approach to address more urgent needs first.

Public frustration over the condition of All Saints Road has grown in recent months, with officials acknowledging frequent complaints from residents and road users.

Merchant said the government remains committed to delivering improvements across the road network, even as negotiations with external partners continue.

Residents are being advised to exercise caution and follow traffic management measures once work begins.
