Police Commissioner Everton Jeffers has highlighted recent cooperation between the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda and the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF), pointing to a nighttime medical evacuation from Barbuda as an example of effective collaboration between the country’s security agencies.

Jeffers said the Defence Force assisted authorities in transporting a young woman from Barbuda following a serious road accident, allowing her to receive urgent medical care.

He noted that the evacuation took place during the night after authorities encountered challenges arranging transportation off the island. According to the commissioner, the timely intervention by the Defence Force was critical and likely saved the woman’s life.

Jeffers expressed appreciation for the support provided by the ABDF, describing the operation as an example of the importance of coordination among national security agencies when responding to emergencies.

The commissioner also addressed general policing efforts on the sister island, noting that officers continue to carry out traffic enforcement operations in Barbuda.

He said police periodically conduct spot checks on vehicles as part of efforts to ensure that motorists comply with licensing requirements. During these checks, officers verify that vehicles are properly registered and licensed to operate on the road.

Jeffers warned that vehicles found to be operating without the proper licensing may be taken off the road as part of enforcement measures aimed at improving road safety and compliance with traffic laws.
