Antigua Government officials and United Nations representatives have completed a review of the United Nations Country Implementation Plan (CIP) for 2025 and outlined strategic priorities for 2026.

The consultation, facilitated by the UN Country Team in St. John’s, brought together representatives from key ministries, including foreign affairs, finance, environment and information technology, along with non-governmental organizations.

Foreign Affairs Minister E.P. Chet Greene, who chairs the Cabinet Sub-Committee on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), said the plan is critical for small island developing states such as Antigua and Barbuda. He described the CIP as a tool that helps translate national goals into tangible action while aligning local priorities with the 2030 Agenda, the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for Small Island Developing States (ABAS), and the country’s Medium-Term Development Strategy.

Permanent Secretary and Ambassador Dr. Clarence Pilgrim noted that the Multi-Country Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework covering 2022–2026 signals the UN’s continued support for Antigua and Barbuda. He said the framework assists the country in advancing economic resilience, equality and climate adaptation.

UN Resident Coordinator for the Eastern Caribbean, Simon Springett, acknowledged that financial constraints during the past year affected implementation in some areas but reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting Antigua and Barbuda and other member states.

Head of the UN Country Office Andrea Andrew led discussions on the 2025 review and next steps for the 2026 implementation cycle.
