A 23-year-old man has died after a scooter crash in the early hours of Sunday on Popeshead Street, near Pita Pocket.

Police said Joshua Alexander, from Light Foot, was travelling south at speed when he lost control and struck a wall and the eastern sidewalk. Emergency crews found him unresponsive at the scene and a doctor pronounced him dead at 03:16.

Officers have offered condolences to his family. An investigation is under way.
