The head of the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force attended a high-level Regional Security System (RSS) Security Chiefs Meeting in Barbados, where senior security officials discussed strengthening regional cooperation and addressing emerging threats across the Caribbean.

The meeting, held at The Crane Resort, brought together security chiefs from RSS member states to examine the region’s changing security landscape and identify opportunities for greater coordination among national security agencies.

Discussions focused on intelligence sharing, operational readiness, capacity building and improving the ability of regional security forces to respond collectively to threats that extend beyond national borders.

Among the major security concerns highlighted were transnational organised crime, illicit trafficking, cybersecurity threats and disaster-related emergencies.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for participating officials to exchange perspectives on shared security priorities and explore ways to improve cooperation and interoperability among regional security agencies.

For Antigua and Barbuda, participation in the discussions forms part of the country’s involvement in regional security arrangements aimed at strengthening collective responses to crime and other security challenges.

According to the RSS, the engagement reinforced the importance of sustained partnerships, strategic planning and collective responsibility in protecting the sovereignty, stability and safety of member states.

The organisation said it remains committed to strengthening regional security capabilities and promoting a coordinated approach to emerging threats under its motto, “Strength Through Unity.”
