The annual Independence Food Fair at V.C. Bird International Airport has been cancelled for 2026 as the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority (ABAA) directs its attention to events of national significance.
The announcement was made Friday through the airport’s official Facebook page, informing vendors, patrons and supporters that the popular Independence activity will not take place this year.
“Due to the attention required of the Airport Authority to events of national significance, we regret to inform that our annual Independence Food Fair will not be held this year,” the authority said in its official notice.
The Airport Authority did not identify the specific national events responsible for the cancellation.
The fair, traditionally held as part of Antigua and Barbuda’s Independence celebrations, is expected to return in 2027.
The authority apologized to those affected by the decision and expressed appreciation for the support the event has received over the years.
“Our apologies to our vendors, patrons and supporters and thanks for your understanding and continued support over the years,” the statement said.
The authority added that it looks forward to welcoming participants and visitors back to the annual Independence activity in 2027.
Antigua and Barbuda will celebrate its 45th anniversary of Independence on Nov. 1, 2026.
