Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre is giving flu vaccines to its healthcare team to help protect staff and patients as the hospital reports an active flu season in Antigua and Barbuda.
In a public notice, the hospital said its Infectious Disease Employee Health Division is administering the vaccines as part of efforts to keep healthcare workers safe and reduce risks to patients.
“The flu season is here and quite active,” the medical centre said.
The hospital encouraged vaccination, saying it can offer protection against influenza illness or hospitalization. It also urged the public to practise hand hygiene and proper cough and cold etiquette.
People feeling unwell were advised to stay home. Those who must go out should wear a mask and keep their distance from others, the hospital said.
The notice did not provide figures on flu cases or hospital admissions, or details of vaccination services for the public.
