Hurricane Power Athletics Club, Antigua and Barbuda’s premier distance-running club, will host the inaugural IC Popoy Half Marathon on Sunday, 8 November 2026. The race starts at 6:00 AM from Old Road Post Office and finishes at YASCO Sports Complex on Old Parham Road. Named in honour of the club’s founder and champion distance runner Ian “Popoy” Codova Simon, the event aims to become the nation’s flagship professional distance race, drawing professional distance runners from across the Caribbean and promoting health, fitness and sports tourism alongside the island’s Independence celebrations.

Registration is open at www.hurricanepowerantigua.com. Multiple age and ability categories will be offered; all finishers will receive participation medals, and top finishers will receive trophies and cash prizes. The overall winner will be recognised as the island’s fastest runner over the 21.1 km distance. A $500 bonus will be awarded to any athlete who breaks Ian “Popoy” Codova Simon’s half-marathon record of 1:08:21, set in 1990. Spectators are encouraged to line the route and cheer the finish at YASCO.
