The University of the West Indies Global Campus has secured institutional re-accreditation for another six years, extending its accredited status through 2032.

The new accreditation period runs from June 18, 2026, to June 17, 2032, according to an announcement from The UWI Global Campus Antigua and Barbuda.

The renewal follows a re-accreditation exercise undertaken this year as the campus approached the expiration of its previous accreditation.

The UWI said it voluntarily submitted itself to external peer review, with the process including a self-evaluation and a re-accreditation visit scheduled for March 2026.

The Global Campus, formerly known as the Open Campus, is institutionally accredited by the Barbados Accreditation Council. Its previous accreditation was granted for seven years, from June 18, 2019, to June 17, 2026.

Institutional accreditation examines an institution’s systems and procedures to determine whether it has the capacity to provide programmes and services that meet established quality standards. The UWI says the process also provides external verification of the quality of its operations and helps identify areas for improvement.

The Global Campus has a physical presence across the Caribbean, including in Antigua and Barbuda, while delivering much of its university education through online and distance-learning programmes.

In announcing the latest accreditation, the Antigua and Barbuda campus said the achievement reaffirmed its commitment to quality education, academic excellence and continuous improvement.

The development comes shortly after UWI’s Cave Hill Campus was also re-accredited through 2032 by the Barbados Accreditation Council.
