A final validation workshop for two major plans governing marine space and natural resources within Nelson’s Dockyard National Park will be held next week.

Integrated Health Outreach, in collaboration with the National Parks Authority, will host the workshop on Thursday, Sept. 24, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Events Center, Officers’ Quarters, Long Hall, Nelson’s Dockyard.

The session will allow stakeholders to review and validate the proposed Marine Spatial Plan and Natural Resources Management Plan for the national park.

Discussions will cover pollution and waste management, the designation of marine areas and the identification of zones for conservation, fishing and other marine activities.

Participants will also consider management priorities for land, coastal and marine ecosystems, along with the governance framework for implementing the plans.

Residents, civil society organizations, private-sector representatives, farmers and fisherfolk are among those invited to participate. The workshop is also targeting stakeholders in the marine, fisheries and tourism sectors.

Following the session, a post-validation consultation and feedback period will run from Sept. 25 through Oct. 9, giving stakeholders another opportunity to provide input on the plans.
