The Antigua and Barbuda College of Advanced Studies has welcomed its first cohort of Environmental Health students, marking an expansion of specialised public-health training available locally.

Health Minister Michael Joseph visited the students at the college’s Dr. Alister Francis Campus, where he spoke about the critical role environmental health professionals play in protecting communities.

Joseph encouraged the students as they begin their studies and prepare for careers focused on safeguarding public health and promoting healthier living conditions across Antigua and Barbuda.

The programme is being delivered through collaboration between ABCAS and the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s capacity in environmental and public health.

Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr. Teri-Ann Joseph, who lectures in the Introduction to Public Health course, joined the minister during the visit.

Deputy Chief Health Inspector at the Central Board of Health Daryl Spencer was also present.

They were joined by Dr. Alister Francis Campus Principal Assata Roberts, Vice Principal Sonia Whittaker and Head of the Department of Science and Health Services Linda Salmon.

ABCAS said the programme will create more opportunities for specialised training in Antigua and Barbuda while preparing a new generation of environmental health professionals to serve the country.
