Buckley line Robbery

Police say some robberies being committed in Antigua and Barbuda bear similarities to crimes recorded in other Caribbean jurisdictions, particularly Jamaica.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Lisbon Michael made the observation Saturday during an appearance on the Browne and Browne Show on Pointe FM.

Michael referred specifically to a recent armed robbery on All Saints Road, saying the type of firearm used had not been commonly seen in Antigua and Barbuda for some time.

He said the weapon and the manner in which the robbery was committed were more consistent with patterns observed in Jamaica.

Michael called for regional law enforcement agencies to review their memoranda of understanding and strengthen cooperation. He also recommended more thorough screening and background checks for people entering Antigua and Barbuda.

The senior officer did not say that Jamaican nationals were responsible for the robbery or provide evidence identifying the suspects’ nationality. Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
