A suspected robbery at a warehouse in Crabbs left prominent Chinese investor Yida Zhang hospitalized with two gunshot wounds, according to preliminary information reaching Antigua.news.
Zhang remains under treatment at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre but is reported to be in stable condition and likely to recover fully. His vital signs are said to be good.
The shooting reportedly injured Zhang’s lungs, but his heart was not affected.
Investigators have not yet established the full sequence of events at the warehouse, which is located within the YIDA Special Economic Zone. Police are expected to determine who carried out the attack and whether robbery was the motive.
Zhang, the principal of Yida International Investment Antigua Limited, has pursued several development proposals in Antigua and Barbuda over the past decade. His company is behind the Special Economic Zone project in the Crabbs area.
