    Dear Editor,

Thursday 23 July 2026 was a very interesting day in our senate.

I usually watch the debates on TV and it was my very first time seeing the President of the senate, Mrs. Alincia Williams-Grant expressing her wrath in such an assertive manner.

Obviously, she was provoked and taken out of her regular comfort zone by the senators, especially by the esteem senator Ms. Malaka Parker.

Some may see the president as bias. Others may see her as perhaps political. For me, I see her as a very professional woman who is very thorough, very tolerant, very cool, very calm and very fair in executing her presidential duties.

I must admit that I admire how she has great command of the King’s English Language and how she articulates with eloquence & clarity.

Her ability of switch coding to our native dialect, in order to add emphasis to a point, when necessary, is extremely remarkable. Commendation must be given to her.

Now, on the other hand, I must say that the cohort of senators for the opposition, is one of the best selected team for a very long time.

It is very evident that they are going to be a force to reckon with in the senate.. They seemed to be properly prepared, deep and their deliveries are definitely on par.

From all indication, Senator Chester Hughes, Senator Malaka Parker, Senator Ashworth Azille & Senator Johnathan Wehner are clearly demonstrating that they are all ready to take the bull by the horn and handle whatever force that confronts them.

In spite of having the majority, it definitely will not be a joy ride for the gov’t senators. They have a mammoth task at hand.

Thursday’s debate was just a taste of the muddy waters yet to come. A lot of emotions are going to flare and the frequency of cross talking will be increased.

Without a doubt I have every confidence that President Alincia Williams-Grant will have every senator under full control.

The stern warning that the president issued to the senators should be a wakeup call.

All I can say to the senators on both sides, is to be careful….. The president has placed the writing on the wall. Going forward it won’t be business as usual.

    Alex
