Before thousands of revellers took to the streets for the Opening Parade and T-Shirt Mas on Saturday, Minister with responsibility for Creative Industries Dwayne George urged the public to enjoy Antigua Carnival 2026 while keeping safety at the forefront.

Officially declaring the country’s premier summer festival open, George welcomed residents, returning nationals and visitors to what he described as a celebration of Antiguan and Barbudan culture and energy.

He encouraged patrons to enjoy the festivities while showing respect for one another.

“I want you to put safety as a priority going forward. I want you to jam and celebrate, but to celebrate respectfully and responsibly,” George said.

The minister also extended a welcome to members of the diaspora who travelled home for the celebrations, saying the country was ready to deliver another memorable Carnival season.

“To the good people of Antigua and Barbuda and those from our diaspora who are visiting for Carnival, we are ready; we are feeling the rhythm. Let’s get the party started,” he said.

“Antigua and Barbuda Carnival 2026 is now open, open for jamming. Let’s get the party rolling. We’re ready; feel the rhythm.”

The Opening Parade and T-Shirt Mas officially launched weeks of Carnival activities, with thousands of revellers filling the streets of St. John’s as music trucks, masqueraders and Carnival bands ushered in the 2026 festival season.
