Youth Leadership Camp Equips More Than 20 Young People With Life Skills

    — More than 20 young people from across Antigua and Barbuda have completed a three-day leadership camp designed to strengthen their confidence, communication skills and resilience.

The Youth Leadership Camp, held from July 20 to 22, was organized by the Wellness Waves Foundation in partnership with The Salvation Army under the theme, “Lead Yourself. Lead Others.”

The programme focused on helping participants develop leadership abilities while improving their conflict resolution, stress management and decision-making skills.

Camp attendees took part in workshops, group discussions and practical exercises covering leadership development, emotional intelligence, public speaking, effective communication, healthy relationships, mindfulness, resilience, goal setting and personal purpose. Participants also received training on human trafficking awareness and its impact on young people.

Wellness Waves Foundation founder Koren Norton said the initiative reflects the organization’s commitment to preparing young people to become future leaders.

“The camp was about helping our youth to build leadership skills, manage conflict and stress, and build confidence. We are proud of all the participants and encourage all sectors of our society to invest in our youth,” Norton said.

The camp was coordinated by Salvation Army Captain Osner Lubin and Wellness Waves Foundation Vice President Deon Grannum.

Facilitators included Deon Grannum, Farida Isaac-Carr, representatives of Youth Arise, Ransford Simms, Callisha Spencer, Dwayne Simon, Alverna Inniss of the Human Trafficking Department, representatives of the Hopeful Heart Foundation, Kyle Preston, Amelia Williams and Christal Percival.

The initiative received support from ACB Caribbean, the Halo Foundation, the Sandals Foundation, Turning Point Inc., Big Banana, Christos, CMC, KFC Antigua Ltd. and the Medical Benefits Scheme.

The Wellness Waves Foundation said it works to promote education, mental wellness and the empowerment of women and young people through programmes and partnerships aimed at building stronger communities.
