The Wadadli Initiative for Self-care and Healing extends heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and wider community of 24-year-old Cody Gomes, whose sudden death is currently under investigation by the police.

According to police reports, Gomes was found unresponsive at his home early on Monday morning. Officers from the All Saints Police Station responded to the scene, and he was later pronounced dead. The circumstances surrounding his death are not yet known, and investigations are ongoing.

WISH joins the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda in urging the public to allow the family privacy, compassion, and respect during this extremely difficult time.

This is a painful moment for all who knew and loved Cody. Behind every sudden loss is a grieving family, a circle of friends, and a community left to process shock, sadness, and unanswered questions.

We encourage members of the public to refrain from speculation, harmful commentary, or the sharing of sensitive details. Instead, let us lead with kindness, check in on those around us, and offer support without judgment.

Moments like these remind us of the urgent need to continue creating safe spaces for honest conversations about mental health, emotional distress, grief, and community care. If someone you know appears withdrawn, overwhelmed, hopeless, unusually quiet, or emotionally distressed, do not dismiss it. Reach out. Listen. Stay connected. Encourage them to speak with someone they trust, including a family member, friend, counsellor, pastor, doctor, teacher, or mental health professional. If there is an immediate concern for someone’s safety, seek emergency assistance right away.

Anyone with information that may assist the police investigation is encouraged to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 or 462-3914. Anonymous information can also be provided through Crime Stoppers by calling 800-TIPS (8477).

To Cody’s family, loved ones, and the Swetes community, WISH offers its deepest sympathy. We hold you in our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

WISH remains committed to mental health education, suicide prevention awareness, and building a culture in Antigua and Barbuda where people feel safe enough to say when they are not okay.
