Women in Antigua and Barbuda are being encouraged to take advantage of a Human Papillomavirus (HPV) screening programme being offered at the Cobbs Cross Clinic later this month as health officials continue efforts to promote early detection and prevention of cervical cancer.

According to information released by the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs, the HPV Screening Day will take place on Saturday, 20 June 2026, from 9:00am to 2:00pm at the clinic.

The screening initiative is aimed at women between the ages of 30 and 65, particularly those who have never undergone an HPV test or whose last screening was conducted five years ago. Women who have not had surgery to remove the entire uterus are also being encouraged to participate.

Health officials say HPV screening plays a critical role in identifying cellular changes that could lead to cervical cancer before symptoms develop. Early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes and can help prevent the disease from progressing.

In addition to screening services, HPV vaccinations will be available for girls and boys aged between nine and 26 years. The ministry says vaccination remains one of the most effective ways of reducing the risk of HPV-related cancers and other diseases.

The campaign forms part of broader public health efforts to increase awareness of cervical cancer prevention and improve access to screening and vaccination services across the country.

Officials are urging eligible women and young people to make use of the free services, stressing that preventive healthcare measures can save lives and contribute to healthier communities.
