A magnitude 4.3 earthquake was recorded northeast of Antigua and Barbuda on Tuesday night, according to an automatic preliminary report issued by the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre.
The quake occurred at approximately 9:41 p.m. local time (01:41 UTC Wednesday), the report stated.
The earthquake was located at latitude 17.44 north and longitude 61.18 west, at a depth of 39 kilometres.
The epicentre was estimated to be about 82 kilometres northeast of St. John’s, 135 kilometres northeast of Brades and 138 kilometres north-northeast of Point-à-Pitre.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The Seismic Research Centre noted that the location was automatically generated by computer algorithms and remains subject to revision following further analysis by seismologists.
