Newly appointed Senator Tiffany Strann Peters says her appointment to the Upper House marks a “full circle moment” shaped by years of community service, political involvement and grassroots activism.

Speaking shortly after being sworn in, Strann Peters said she was “extremely elated” to have been given the opportunity to continue serving Antigua and Barbuda, describing public service as something she has embraced from a very young age through charitable organizations, fundraising efforts and youth initiatives.

“This moment, it is like a full circle moment, but it’s a humbling moment as well because I know that everything that we have belongs to the Creator,” she said while giving thanks for the appointment.

The senator also reflected emotionally on fallly members who were unable to witness the occasion, including her late Aunt and former ABLP General Secretary. She added that former Senate President Hazelyn Francis is her aunt and someone she admired growing up.

Strann Peters said her work in the Senate will focus heavily on youth development, women’s empowerment and improving opportunities for people living in rural communities.

“For me, at the forefront of everything would always be youth and women, also for the development of the grassroots,” she said, adding that people from villages and countryside communities are often overlooked despite their talent and contributions.

Pointing to recent successes in St. Mary’s South, she highlighted the ABLP reclaiming the constituency, winning the Labour Queen 2026 competition and placing second in the Labour Day cheerleaders competition.

“We are small but we talawa, and so we know that big things come in small packages,” she said.

Strann Peters also used the moment to encourage young women to pursue their ambitions despite setbacks or delays.

“I would send this message to young women that you should dare to dream and not only dare to dream, but to work towards fulfilment of that dream,” she said. “Delayed never means denied.”

She noted that she has been involved in political work since 2008 alongside Samantha Marshall and said she believes “everything within God’s timing” eventually comes to fruition.

Closing the interview, Strann Peters thanked supporters from Bolans, St. Mary’s South, family members, teachers and campaign workers who encouraged and advocated for her appointment.

“I want to assure Antigua and Barbuda that I will indeed continue to serve with honour and distinction and continue to uplift my nation,” she said.
