The Chinese Embassy in Antigua and Barbuda joined local students and cultural enthusiasts in celebrating International Chinese Language Day during an event hosted by the Confucius Institute on May 9.

Chinese Ambassador Jiang Wei attended the activity, which brought together university students, members of the overseas Chinese community and individuals interested in learning the language and culture of China.

According to the embassy, Ambassador Jiang described language as a bridge that strengthens understanding between civilizations and helps bring people closer together. She expressed hope that the event would encourage more people in Antigua and Barbuda to learn Chinese and deepen cultural exchanges between the two countries.

The programme featured lectures on Chinese culture and activities introducing participants to Chinese characters and traditional art forms.

Interactive booths allowed attendees to experience calligraphy, painted lacquer fans, pitch-pot games, traditional rubbing art and Hanfu costume activities.

Organisers said the event aimed to use language and culture as a platform to promote appreciation for Chinese traditions while strengthening people-to-people connections within the local community.
