Barbuda Council Urges Residents and Diaspora to Complete Island Survey Following Land Rights Victory

The Barbuda Council is encouraging Barbudans at home and abroad to participate in a new survey aimed at gathering data on the island’s most pressing social and economic concerns following what it described as a significant legal victory over land rights.

In a statement posted online alongside GLAN – Global Legal Action Network, the Council said last week marked “an important moment for Barbuda,” after a court ruling reaffirmed that Barbudan land cannot be sold.

The Council described the development as a reminder of “what we can achieve when we stand together,” and called on residents and members of the diaspora to complete the survey to help shape future planning and decision-making for the island.

According to the statement, the survey seeks feedback on issues including housing and land concerns, cost of living pressures, jobs and economic opportunities, healthcare, education, and the long-term vision Barbudans have for the island’s future.

“The survey helps the Council understand what matters most to you and helps guide planning and decisions for the future of Barbuda,” the statement said.

The Council also said wider participation would strengthen the voice of the Barbudan community in discussions surrounding development and governance.

Barbudans were encouraged to complete the survey and share it with others in the diaspora through the following link:

“The future of Barbuda must be shaped by Barbudans,” the statement added.
