    Dear Editor,

The countdown is definitely on. Our general election is now less than 72 hours away.

In my view, the narrative of ” leadership ” will be the factor to determine the victor of the two political parties. Leadership does not only apply to the position of Prime minister, but it also applies to the position of the ” constituency caretaker ” which cannot be overlooked.

A good leader isn’t just someone in charge—they are someone who has a mix character of skills and behavior. Political leadership is not just about leading a team, but it involves the complex art of representing millions of people with different interests, values, and expectations.

So, as we look forward to go to the polls on Thursday, 30th 2026, we the electorates should take into consideration the following to influence our decisions

    1. Public trust and credibility

Does the Political candidate that you are voting for have your trust? Consistency between what they say and what they do is critical?

    2. Vision for society

Does the Political candidate that you are voting for have a clear idea of where they want to take the country or constituency—whether that’s economic growth, social reform, or stability—and the ability to turn that vision into realistic policies?

    3. Communication with diverse audiences

Does the Political candidate that you are voting for has that ability to communicate well to different groups—supporters, critics, and undecided citizens—without alienating them?

    4. Negotiation and compromise

Does the Political candidate that you are voting for have that ability to work with their opponents, to build coalitions, and find middle ground without completely abandoning their principles?

    5. Decisiveness under pressure

Does the Political candidate that you are voting for have the ability to make critical & effective decisions during a crisis such as economic downturns, natural disasters, conflict?

    6. Integrity and ethical judgment

Is the Political candidate that you are voting ethical and will not abuse political power for their own personal gain?

    7. Accountability to the public

Is the Political candidate that you are voting for transparent and humble during the normal personal life and can accept criticism from the ordinary common person?

    8. Understanding of policy and systems

Does the Political candidate that you are voting for have political experience and have knowledge of economics, law, international relations, and how government actually functions?

    9. Emotional intelligence and restraint

Can the Political candidate that you are voting for stay composed and manage any unnecessary escalation, during a tense and adversarial situation?

    10. Ability to unify rather than divide

Does the Political candidate that you are voting for have the ability to reduce polarization and build a sense of shared purpose, even among disagreement?

The balance between principle, pragmatism, and power is what ultimately defines the leader’s effectiveness.
