Garbage collection services were disrupted across parts of the country on Wednesday after sanitation workers staged a walkout, citing poor treatment and a lack of benefits, according to ABS Television.

Roughly 60 employees from the landfill and garbage collection units of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) are involved in the action. The workers argue they are not receiving the same incentives and allowances as employees in other government departments, including Public Works.

They are also calling for the removal of General Manager Indira James-Henry, alleging that management has failed to adequately respond to their concerns.

The protest has interrupted regular waste collection, and discussions are now underway to resolve the dispute. ABS reported that James-Henry arrived on site and is currently in talks with the workers.
