Driver damages fresh concrete as road works continue in Bathlodge

A section of newly laid concrete in Bathlodge has been damaged after a motorist drove through a restricted work zone, despite clear warning signs and barriers.

Officials say the incident occurred while road improvement works were under way in the community, part of a wider infrastructure programme affecting several across the country.

In a public notice, authorities said the driver “deliberately” breached a boundary barrier, causing damage to freshly poured concrete that had not yet cured.

Road crews have now issued an urgent appeal to motorists and pedestrians to comply with all safety measures at active work sites.

They are urging the public to respect road signs and barriers, use clearly marked detour routes, and follow instructions from workers on site.

Officials also warned that newly paved surfaces require time to dry and harden properly, noting that it is not always possible to determine whether the surface is safe to use by sight alone.

The damage is expected to delay completion of works in the affected area, adding to costs and disrupting progress.

Authorities thanked the public for their patience and cooperation as efforts continue to improve the country’s road network.
