State broadcaster ABS Television is expected to relocate to new facilities at the Caribbean Cinemas complex on Friars Hill Road within the next two months, government officials said during Thursday’s post-Cabinet media briefing.

Director General of Communications in the Office of the Prime Minister, Maurice Merchant, confirmed that the move is already underway.

“The contract for your new location has been signed,” Merchant said. “The Department of Works will move immediately later this week, being tomorrow and the weekend, to start its overview and review of the facilities — the new facilities for ABS within the Caribbean Cinemas building on the Friars Hill Road.”

Merchant said the relocation is intended to address problems affecting the current ABS building and ensure the broadcaster can operate in a more suitable environment.

“In the interim, Public Works will be making some adjustments at your current facilities,” he said.

He added that the government expects the transition to take place soon.

“So anticipation within two months or less that you should be within your new facilities,” Merchant said.
