Barbuda Senator Kendra Beazer has described the issuance of Barbuda’s first freehold land certificates as a defining moment that could unlock new economic and social opportunities for residents.

Beazer said the development marked the beginning of a new era of empowerment, security and sustainable development for Barbudans.

“For generations, Barbudans have lived, worked and built their lives on lands held in a common state,” he said.

According to Beazer, the certificates represent more than legal documentation establishing ownership. He said they symbolise dignity, resilience and the ability of Barbudans to own the land on which they have built their lives.

“This milestone represents more than a legal document; it is a symbol of dignity, resilience and the right of every Barbudan to stand on land that is truly theirs,” Beazer said.

The senator said he was celebrating the achievement with the wider community, describing it as the result of years of struggle, faith and determination.

He argued that land ownership could help residents secure housing, establish businesses, expand agricultural activity and create wealth that can be passed on to future generations.

“Land ownership is not just about property; it is about unlocking opportunities for housing, business, agriculture and generational wealth,” he said. “It is about ensuring that our children inherit a future rooted in stability and justice.”

Beazer also commended those who pioneered the freehold process, including former Barbuda MP Arthur Nibbs, who received one of the first certificates.

“Their example lights the path forward for all Barbudans,” he said.

Beazer called the occasion a moment of unity and progress and pledged to continue supporting efforts to build a resilient, prosperous and inclusive Barbuda.

“Together, we will continue to build a Barbuda that is resilient, prosperous and inclusive, where every citizen has the chance to thrive on the land of their birth,” he said.
